Useful Korean phrases and menu help

01

A few Korean greetings go a long way

Simple phrases like annyeonghaseyo for hello and gamsahamnida for thank you are enough to make interactions warmer. You do not need perfect pronunciation.

Use them at restaurants, shops, and guesthouses and people usually understand the effort.

02

Learn how to ask for this one, please

Pointing is normal in markets and casual restaurants. Saying igeo juseyo means this one, please.

It works well with menus, bakery cases, street food, and ticket counters.

03

Prepare allergy or dietary notes in Korean

If you have allergies, vegetarian restrictions, halal needs, or other food limits, prepare a clear Korean note. Machine translation can help, but check it carefully.

Show the note before ordering, especially in small restaurants.

04

Exit numbers are often more useful than street names

When asking for directions, subway station names and exit numbers are usually easier than full street addresses. Say or show the station name plus Exit 3, Exit 7, and so on.

This also helps when meeting friends or guides.

05

Do not worry if staff answer in simple English

Many visitor-facing places use a mix of Korean, English words, gestures, and translation apps. Keep your request short and specific.

One sentence at a time works better than a long explanation.
